University of Cyprus and Athanasios Ktorides Foundation renew their cooperation agreement for the doctoral scholarships in energy programme for a further four years
Nicosia, November 12, 2018 – The cooperation agreement between the University of Cyprus and the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation providing scholarships to doctoral students at the University of Cyprus whose research focuses on energy (photovoltaics, solarthermal energy, solar technologies, renewables) has been renewed for a further four years as part of the “Active for Energy” initiative.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Athanasios Ktorides, said that the “Active for Energy” initiative aspires to build knowledge, but also projects that will have a direct contribution to the energy development of Cyprus and emphasised that this is part of a major vision of knowledge for the next generations.
Prof. Constantinos Christofides, the Rector of the University of Cyprus, thanked the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation and noted that such activities by foundations and organisations fundamentally contribute to the realisation of the University’s goals.
Our aim, the Rector said, through the renewal of cooperation with the Foundation, is to promote a strategic, modern and innovative sector that has great prospects in the field of research. “I am confident that the scholarships provided by the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation will be utilised to the utmost by excelling students and research work will be submitted that will have an impact on the development of the country,” the Rector noted.
Our quest, he concluded, is to transform Cyprus into a green state which will utilise, to everyone’s benefit, the renewable sources that this land provides in abundance.
The Agreement provides for the grant of a scholarship, entitled “Athanasios Ktorides Foundation Scholarship” for a doctoral student of the University of Cyprus. The scholarship that will be granted by the Foundation will cover the fees for up to four academic years. A five-person committee was appointed to grant the scholarship, that includes a representative from the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation.
The renewal of the cooperation agreement between the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation and the University of Cyprus within the framework of the “Active for Energy” initiative, is part of the Foundation’s programme, marking its tenth anniversary of operation. On this occasion, the Foundation announced a programme of scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year in graduate, post-graduate and doctoral studies offered to Cypriot students in leading universities in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
“We continue to invest in the next generations who will become our future scientists, researchers and leaders that this society so much needs,” the Chairman of the Foundation concluded.
