All ready for the «Quantum Nicosia Marathon» 7.7km race at Athalassa Park on December 2
7,700m run in honour of Cypriot Marathon runner Stelios Kyriakides who won in Boston 1946
NICOSIA, 15 November, 2018 – The Athanasios Ktorides Foundation and the “Quantum Nicosia Marathon” are moving ahead with the organisation of the 7.7km race which will take place at the Athalassa Park on Sunday December 2.
Realising the structural problems that exist in the heart of Nicosia, the technical team has concluded that the “Quantum Nicosia Marathon” will take place on 2/12/2018 with a milestone race of 7,700 metres as a sign of gratitude to the legendary Stelios Kyriakides who won the Boston Marathon in 1946. The race distance is symbolic as it represents the legendary marathon runner’s jersey number “77”.
The capital Nicosia cannot be deprived of the right to host such sporting celebrations and for this reason the race will held under the auspices of the Mayor of Nicosia. All proceeds from the event will go to charity.
We hope that when all the problems are resolved and Nicosia will be ready, the marathon will return to capital with the start and finish at the Famagusta Gate, the birthplace of the Quantum Nicosia Marathon.
Race Director for the event is the Dro.Me.A Racing runners club.
